What You May Have Missed.
Lots going on for the young adults at grassroots these days. We had a great time yesterday evening at our last Thursday night teaching session. Here’s a little review of what Chris taught us, in case you couldn’t make it:
- Christianity has often polarized into two camps: those who focus primarily on the outward, physical world, of doing good and helping those in need, and those who focus mainly on the internal spiritual matters of salvation in Christ. (often called the social and evangelical gospels).
- The separation of the spiritual from the physical is called dualism.
- We can reject dualism (even the notion of merging both camps) and move toward a more complete view, one that sees the physical and the spiritual as inseparable, parts of a whole body.
- This complete gospel is taught and demonstrated by Jesus and the apostles.
- These physical and spiritual, inward and outward workings of the gospel are all manifestations of the same salvation, found only in Christ.
If you’ve just found us you should know that this wraps up a whole semester of teaching and conversation around the history of ideas in the Christian church. Four of these sessions were recorded so you can catch up or review. Here’s a quick list of the recorded sessions (with our very own Tim Brown!):
